Meet T. Chris Muirhead, CPA

T. Chris Muirhead came to Safford, Porter & Associates, one of two predecessor companies of Porter, Muirhead, Cornia & Howard, in January of 1977 from Price Waterhouse & Co. Denver office Tax Department. He has an Associate of Science Degree from Casper College and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from the University of Wyoming, classes of 1972 and 1974 respectively.

Chris has more than 35 years of practice as a CPA under his belt with an emphasis in areas of taxation focusing on Corporation, pass-through entities and individual income tax planning and compliance, estate planning and trust administration, and Business and individual consulting. His current position with Porter, Muirhead, Cornia & Howard is Director of Taxation responsible for the Firm’s tax practice.

Chris has co-authored several published articles during his career.

Chris is a Certified Public Accountant licensed to practice in both Wyoming and Colorado holding CPA certificates for both states. He is a member of: the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Tax Division of the AICPA, the Wyoming State Society of Certified Public Accountants, Central Wyoming Estate Planning Council, the University of Wyoming Planned Giving Advisory Council.

Chris is a past Chairman of the WSCPA’s committee for Federal Taxation, as well as a prior member of the WSCPA’s Board of Directors (2003 to 2003).

He is a Past member of the “Tax Practice Improvement Committee” of the Tax Division of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, appointed November of 1999, reappointed November of 2002, and served as Chairman of the committee from October of 2004 to October of 2005. He rotated off this committee in October of 2006. Chris was also a past member of the “Tax Executive Committee” of the Tax Division of the American Institute of CPAs, appointed in October of 2006 and served a term that ended in October of 2009.

Chris currently serves as the Secretary of the Wyoming State Board of CPAs. He was appointed to the board by Wyoming Governor Matt Mead in June of 2011.

Chris serves his community by being a board member and Secretary of the Masterson Family Foundation and has served on this board since its inception in September of 2005. He also serves on the Wyoming Medical Center Board and is fulfilling a second term as Chairman which he started in December of 2010. He was appointed to the board in November of 1995 and elected Chairman for the first time in July of 1998, holding the position until June of 2003. Chris is also a board member and President of the Tate Charitable Foundation, a private foundation, from inception in December of 1994 to the present.

He has also served: the Theatre Advisory Board, Casper College (1988 to 1994), as a board member; the Education Endowment Fund for Natrona County School District #1 (1988 to 1994) as a board member for 2 terms and Chairman for two 1-year terms; the Business Advisory Council Foundation (1992 to 2010), as a Board Member from inception in May 1992 and Secretary-Treasurer for the entire term; the Wyoming Medical Center Foundation (1993 to 1995), appointed to the Board of Directors in June of 1993, as Chairman at the time of the appointment to the Board; the Wyoming Healthcare Commission (May of 2003 to October of 2005), appointed by Wyoming Governor Dave Freudenthal in 2003 to chair a commission authorized and funded by the Wyoming Legislature to study healthcare issues facing the state of Wyoming.
